Fans of the PSP, and portable RPGs, should be happy to hear that later this year the console will be getting a welcome booster shot courtesy of game developers Level-5. Known for games like Dragon Quest VIII and Rogue Galaxy, Level-5 is getting ready to release a new portable Strategy RPG titled Jeanne d'Arc.

While historically inspired the game takes the story a bit further mixing in elements of most fantasy RPGs - think of it as one part history and multiple parts fantasy. Reports right now are suggesting that the game will be mixing several types of traditional RPG gameplay. Similar to Fire Emblem, Jeanne d'Arc will offer mission types with varrying goals. Using your resources you'll be required to complete various tasks ranging from clearing the battlefield to escorting VIPs to certain locations.

Sticking to the designs of previous Level-5 RPGs, Jeanne d'Arc sports some eye-catching cell shading and features many anime style cutscenes. Early shots of the anime scenes (one available at the opening of this piece and others featured in the trailer below) are certainly impressive. With the PSPs bright screen and obvious movie playing power the game's cutscenes are sure to impress, mix in the game's healthy genealogy and this title has some serious potential.

Right now Jeanne d'Arc is slated for an August release in the US. Check out the trailer below and stay tuned for more.
