  1. IGN has some new screenshots of the upcoming Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood from BioWare.  Along with 20 screenshots there's also an interview with the game's producer Mike Darrah.  The article is worth checking out if only to see the absolutely stunning graphics that BioWare has put together!
  2. Could Sony be planning on doing something with the new PSP slims?  PSPFanboy found some documents submitted to the FCC which hint at a possible series of changes to the PSP but don't get too specific.  Based on the listings its safe to assume we wont be seeing a new PSP line quite yet there's a chance that some of the hardware might be changing - time will tell.
  3. Destructoid has some details on the upcoming release of Audiosurf coming to Steam pretty soon.  Check out their vid and get some pricing details.

Speedlinking 2/10/08 Edition

  1. Do you struggle with the whammy bar in Guitar Hero? Good with a soldering iron? You may want to check out this hack presented by Googlemarks. With just a little bit of soldering and a basic knowledge of circuitry and you've got an automatic whammy bar capable of maxing your scores - of course if you still have to work those pesky fret buttons on your own or just go a step too far and build a Guitar Hero playing robot.
  2. The folks over at DSFanboy have a post comparing the three different versions of N+ that will be coming to the DS, PSP and XBox Live Marketplace. There's also a very interesting point made - apparently because the game is essentially being developed by Atari for the handhelds and Metanet for XBLM, and because all three versions will have different aspect ratios, the three versions all basically have unique levels ... over 500 each! Looks like if you really love N you could buy all three games and experience a TON of gameplay variety.
  3. I've been avidly watching TIGSource for news on independent games and once again they've come through. Check out this post which highlights the upcoming Bonesaw. Looks like it might be a lot of fun - it also looks difficult but that's a good thing no?
  4. GamePro recently released an article concerning Gears of War 2 and it's possible release sometime in 2008.  Epic responded by calling the article "complete nonsense."  Want to read what the article?  Check out scans currently available on at Kotaku.

Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass Wins IIAC Best Handheld Game

Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass BoxartGoing into 2007 there was only one DS game I knew I was going to buy. It's also the only DS game I bought in 2007 that I didn't finish, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. I didn't not like the game - I just started it and ended up bouncing off to something else before really getting into it.

It turns out that one of the best games of 2007 that I didn't give enough time too is also one of the few IIAC winners that I haven't played.

Thankfully I have a long - long plane flight this weekend so hopefully I'll be able to bang it out in one marathon run.

Check those Used Game Boxes

A little over a week ago I bought (well, thought I bought) Pheonix Wright. The box I got at my local GameStop was for a used copy of the game and had the boxart for the original Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney just today I realized that the game inside the box (and in fact the yellow used game sticker) are actually Pheonix Wright Ace Attorney - Justice for All - ouch.

You may think this isn't much of a deal but trying to track down a cheap copy of the original Pheonix Wright game proved to be somewhat difficult. I'm the kind of person who likes to follow a story from beginning to end - I hate missing the first episode!

Tomorrow I'm hoping to head over to the local GameStop and try talking them into swapping the disk - or at least the box and then letting me buy the right cart. I am planning on playing through the series because it's quite enjoyable so buying something else isn't exactly a bummer to me.

There is a lesson here though - I've always checked to make sure that the disc isn't scratched or otherwise damaged but it prove a good idea to make sure you get the right game while at it.

Spore and Other Upcoming EA Releases

Spore
Spore is one of those games that I'm just dying to play - unfortunately it's also one of those games that seems to just keep moving further and further away. Today we get some good news though.

Despite further delaying Mercenaries 2, EA was kind enough to give us a slight hint at when we might see Spore hit the market. While it's not set in stone it looks as though Spore will be hitting the market sometime before the 2008 holiday season.

Of course with this good news comes three helpings of iffy. As of right now Bioware's upcoming Dragon Age RPG, Pandemic's Mercenaries 2, and Battlefiel: Bad Company have all been pushed into EA's next fiscal year. The good news is that EA's next fiscal year runs from April 1, 2008 through March 31, 2009 - that's a good possibility for 2008 but leaves plenty of time for a 2009 release.
