Rumor Smash: Rock Band unDelayed

Rock BandIf you've pre-ordered Harmonx's upcoming rythm party game Rock Band you may have gotten an email from Amazon this morning announcing that the game is getting pushed back to 2008.

Well - it's not.

Joystiq is reporting (and this comes straight to them from Harmonix) that the game is still slated for release in November. Harmonix followed up the assertion with the following:

We have asked Amazon to address this and we'll be coming out November of this year. We've requested they update their information. We have no idea where that date came from.

My guess is that if you got one of these delay notifications you should probably be getting an appropriate retraction sometime soon. In the meantime you can ignore the "August 11, 2008" listing on the Amazon product page.

For those wondering the XBox360 listing shows November 20, 2007.

In a press release issued earlier today Activision has made some major announcements concerning the upcoming release of Guitar Hero III. Beside finalizing the guitar choice for Guitar Hero III, next gen consoles will see a Gibson while the PS2 will get be given the classic Kramer guitar, Activision also released a short set list.

  1. Paint It Black (by The Rolling Stones)
  2. Cherub Rock (by Smashing Pumpkins)
  3. Sabotage (by Beastie Boys)
  4. The Metal (by Tenacious D)
  5. My Name is Jonas (by Weezer)
  6. Knights of Cydonia (by Muse)
  7. Rock And Roll All Nite (as made famous by Kiss)
  8. School’s Out (as made famous by Alice Cooper)
  9. Slow Ride (as made famous by Fog Hat)

( I love how they bounce between "as made famous by" and simply "by" )

Anyway - this early list of tracks is very cool as is the news that all consoles will be treated to a wireless controller right from the get-go.

The official Guitar Hero forums has links to YouTube videos showing off videos for the Guitar Hero III songs.

Guitar Hero 80’s Edition

Guitar Hero II is still fresh out of the box for the XBox360 but a lot of people, including myself, are already watching for the next installment. A few months back when word started filtering out that an 80's edition was in the pipes more than a few gamers broke out their spandex and hairspray. And then there was nothing.

Not to be outdone by the ESRB Amazon Canada, Gamespot, Gamefly have already started listing the game as being available as early as June 4th and as late as July 31st. Here's the interesting bit. Right now both Gamefly and Amazon Canada are listing the game as available for the PlayStation 2. Amazon is specifically calling the game "Guitar Hero 2 Rockin to the 80[sic]" which makes me wonder whether an XBox360 version might come in the form of XBox Live Content.

Anyway, one of my favorite titles on Guitar Hero II right now is "You Really Got Me." I'm dying to get a look at what 80 anthems are going to be available in the new game and how they're going to be playing up the 80's setting. Keep your fingers crossed for some "Pour Some Sugar on Me" and maybe some AC/DC.
